Welcome at the foot of Rila Mountain!
In the Southwest part of Bulgaria is situated the highest mountain in the Balkan Peninsula - Rila.
Its name has Slavonic origin and comes from the name Rula, which means Water Mountain. The name perfectly matches the mountain’s characteristics. There are more than 150 lakes and a great number of rivers and streams which spring from there. One of them is the river of German, on the coasts of which has been built the town of Dupnitsa.
Among the impressive woods of Rila, close to one of the most famous cultural and historical landmarks in Bulgaria the "Rila Monastery", the village of Stob, famed for its unique rock formations, the village Sapareva banya famous with its mineral waters, built on the ancient Thracian village, the mountain village Panichishte and the Rila Lakes, on the distance of 69 kilometers South of Sofia, 38 kilometers Southeast of Kyustendil, 33 kilometers North of Blagoevgrad and 40 kilometers West of Samokov, along the valley of Struma, the town of Dupnitsa is waiting for you. 500 meters above the see level, at the crossroads of the main international road E-79 which connects Bulgaria with Greece, Adriatic, Istanbul and the road to the West European countries through Macedonia and Serbia, Dupnitsa has become the natural center of the Southwest part of Bulgaria.
